Tokyo Part III

Day three of our Tokyo adventure began by seeing the statue of Hachiko the dog at Shibuya Train Station.  Legend has it that for almost two years, this Akita would follow his master, a professor at the Imperial University, to catch the train for work each morning.  When the professor came home in the evening, Hachiko would be waiting for him as he left the station. One day the professor passed away at work, but Hachiko continued to wait for the train every morning and every evening until he passed away ten years later in the same spot that he last said good-bye to his master in.

Sad story about Hachiko so on a brighter note, we also thought of Bailey and Sable at the train station when we saw this wall mural.

During our travels, we learned that Michael Jackson died in the same plaza as this giant coo-coo clock.  We happened to be looking at it during the top of the hour and got to see the little guys on the right do their thing.

During all my writing about Tokyo, I have neglected to mention one very important thing....

all the wonderful pastries that we enjoyed!!  Good thing we did so much walking!

We decided to relax a little with a river cruise.

The breeze on the water really felt good on a hot day.

We got to see a Statue of Liberty and had a great view of a lot of the city.

  I thought it was funny that in the middle of the city there was  a "beach" for people to sun and swim.  Guess you have to be creative when you don't have much space.

It was Alex and Cathy's five year dating anniversary so Al wanted to get Cathy something special.  We decided to go the Ginza district, which is supposed to be world famous.   Michael and I did a little scheming, and Al and Cathy were able to get each other gifts without the other one knowing.  They are so cute!

Our final Tokyo destination was the Tokyo Tower.  It looks much like the Eiffel Tower in Paris except it's taller.

Inside was complete with two levels of observation decks, restaurants, and even a night club.
